How To Use A Pocketwash Eye Wash Station

Understand the Situation
Before flushing the eyes, confirm it is a recommended course of action for your specific incident. Wash any contaminants from your hands and avoid rubbing your eyes.
The steps below assume the user is working with a compatible faucet for the eye wash station. See Pocketwash Compatibility for more details on what works with our system.
Knowing the Features
There are three main features to understand when looking at the eye-washing unit. The centered inlet takes in water from the faucet and divides/distributes it between the two output zones. The flow indication notches identify the flow direction and should be facing the user.
Steps for Use
1) Press Pocketwash Inlet Against Spout
Check that the flow direction notches are facing the user (rotate if necessary). The centered inlet features a rubber washer that forms a seal with the faucet's spout. This must be centered on the spout to ensure even flow from both of the Pocketwash outlets. Hold the unit in place.
2) Gradually Turn on Faucet
Slowly open the faucet's cold and hot water valves create a desirable stream height and water temperature. The stream height should position the user over the sink. Tepid water should be used in most cases (for example, some fiberglass insulation recommends flushing eyes with cool water; see foreign material packaging for instructions on how to best treat each case).
3) Briefly Rinse Eyes
While holding Pocketwash against the faucet with one hand, use the index finger and thumb of the other hand to hold eyelids open. Gentle roll the eyes up-down and left-right in the streams of water.
4) Remove Contact Lenses After Initial Flush (Skip if N/A)
Contact lenses may trap contaminants and bacteria if left in, causing further damage.
5) Rinse Eyes for 15 minutes or Until Foreign Material Has Been Removed
Some incidents require different rinse times (see packaging of the foreign material). Oftentimes, the recommendation of 15 minutes comes from attempting to dilute a chemical exposure to the eyes.
Note: Discomfort and/or irritation is not uncommon while flushing the eyes with water.
After Use
Always seek medical attention to ensure the eyes have been fully cleared of foreign material. POCKETWASH is intended to be used in emergency situations to provide the user with
immediate relief. Since every use-case is unique, only a healthcare professional can confirm that all foreign material has been removed.
Reminder: only return POCKETWASH to the protective case after the unit has fully dried (remove the rubber washer and leave out to dry)
